New IMLA President Confirmed, Jeffrey Dana

IMLA confirms Jeffrey Dana as IMLA President from September 29, 2024 – October 21, 2025.

In a business meeting held on September 29, 2024, in Orlando, Florida, IMLA confirmed the nomination of Jeffrey Dana of Providence, Rhode Island to be President of IMLA.

Jeff has been City Solicitor for the City of Providence, Rhode Island since March 2015. Prior to serving as the Solicitor, he was in private practice with a focus on consumer rights litigation and consumer bankruptcy. He previously served as the Career Law Clerk to the Hon. Arthur N. Votolato, Jr. of the US Bankruptcy Court in Rhode Island, as an attorney with Rhode Island Legal Services, and in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He has been actively engaged with numerous community organizations; having served as a board member for organizations such as the Childhood Lead Action Project, Community Action Partnership of Providence, Olneyville Housing Corporation, and the George Wiley Center. He currently serves as a board member of Crossroads Rhode Island and as the President of the International Municipal Lawyer Association. He received a BA from Tulane University and a JD from Tulane University School of Law.

In response to Mr. Dana’s new position, his colleagues had many well wishes and congratulatory thoughts:

Smiley. “This well-deserved recognition further underscores Jeff’s ongoing commitment to public service in Providence and I look forward to seeing that same dedication and expertise exercised on a national level.”

President Pro Tempore, Juan Pichardo, of the Providence, Rhode Island City Council weighed in: “I’d like to congratulate Jeff Dana on becoming president of the International Municipal Lawyers Association. Jeff’s work exemplifies how dedicated public servants can lead to positive change. This leadership role highlights his expertise and the respect he has earned in the field. This role allows him to influence policies and practices at a national and international level, promoting and setting best practices among municipal lawyers.”

Patrick Baker, Charlotte, North Carolina City Attorney and former IMLA President, noted: “Jeff Dana possesses all the best qualities of a true public servant and leader. He is exceptionally well qualified to serve as our next IMLA President.”

Rosemary Humway-Warmuth, IMLA’s outgoing President, noted: “It’s exciting to “pass the gavel” to Jeffrey as incoming president of the IMLA. In working with him closely for several years, I applaud his intellect, energy & commitment to excellence in municipal law practice. Congratulations Jeff!”

Founded in 1935, the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) is a non-profit, nonpartisan organization consisting of over 2,500 local government attorneys throughout the United States and Canada. IMLA provides a wide range of services and programs to its membership, including comprehensive educational programs, legal research, professional publications, and legal advocacy on behalf of its members in the United States Supreme Court, as well as federal and state appellate courts.
