Puttin' the Law in Jamba'law'ya - About New Orleans

The New Orleans Convention Bureau has put together a website just for IMLA Annual Conference registrants which provides information on what to do, where to eat, getting around New Orleans, and more. VISIT THIS SITE HERE. In the coming months, we will be updating this site to provide information on IMLA activities for our registrants, including the very popular Mobile Land Use Tour and more!

While the Annual Conference officially starts Sunday, October 10th, please note that we do have two unique programs that piggyback to the Annual Conference, and start on Saturday, October 9th. These two programs have a separate registration fee and a separate registration form (located below under "Registration Information"). The programs are:

  1. The Institute for Local Government Lawyers - Saturday, October 9th - 

    The Institute for Local Government Lawyers (ILGL) is a full-day program geared towards law students, attorneys new to local government, as well as seasoned attorneys who need a “refresher” in various general topics of local government law. This year's lineup includes the following (brown bag lunch is included):

  2. Code Enforcement - Saturday, October 9th and Sunday, October 10th - This two-day session is tentatively scheduled to include the following topics: Quick And Effective Ways to Abate Nuisances Short of Court, Codes Inspection: Process and 4th Amendment/Due Process, Compelling Compliance through Judicial Proceedings, Hoarders & Mental Illness from the Mental Health Perspective, Public Nuisance Property involved with Bankruptcy and Foreclosures, Post-case Mitigation: Abandoned Property and Liability for Clean-Up and Abatement Cost Recovery.  SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT THIS PROGRAM: IF YOU SIGN UP FOR THIS TWO-DAY PROGRAM, YOUR FEE INCLUDES AUTOMATIC REGISTRATION FOR OUR MOBILE LAND USE WORKSHOP TAKING PLACE ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 10th.             

 

Additional Events 

  1. St. Bernard "Voluntourism" -  Working with the St. Bernard Project
    REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT IS NOW CLOSED. The St. Bernard Project is a rebuilding organization with opportunities for both skilled and unskilled volunteers. During your time with the Project, you could be doing any of the following tasks: installing exterior doors and windows, installing insulation, hanging sheetrock/drywall, taping sheetrock joints, mud/spackling, putting down flooring, installing interior door, trim and cabinets, yard work and painting. IMLA Conference Attendees can have a chance to participate with this Project on Saturday, October 9th. You will participate in orientation and get a work assignment with directions to your worksite.  If you, or anyone in your group, is under 18, please have a parent or guardian sign the liability waiver either here or ahead of time if they will be unaccompanied.  The Project must receive a waiver from each volunteer.
  2. Mobile Land Use Tour - THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT.

    PLEASE NOTE
    : YOU MUST HAVE A TICKET TO BOARD THE BUSES FOR THE SUNDAY MOBILE LAND USE WORKSHOP.  PLEASE VISIT THE IMLA REGISTRATION DESK PRIOR TO COMING TO BOARD YOUR BUS TO OBTAIN YOUR TICKET. YOUR TICKET WILL HAVE YOUR SPECIFIC BOARDING TIME LOCATED ON THE FRONT OF THE TICKET.

     

    For those who have already signed up and paid for this event, your bus will depart on one of the following times:  12:30pm, 1:30pm OR 2:30pm.  Please note your departure time.  

     

    The buses will be waiting and loading at the second side drive entrance of the Hilton hotel main building, first floor (across from the shoe shine stand). The bus company is Hotard 

     

    This will be a three-hour guided tour of New Orleans, with at least one scheduled stop at the St. Bernard Project. Food is not provided, so we encourage you to finish lunch before coming on board the bus.  


     

  3. Annual Golf Tournament - IMLA's Annual Golf Tournament takes place this year on Sunday, October 10th - 1PM at Lakewood Country Club. CLICK HERE for registration form.

  4. Annual Softball Game -Tuesday, October 12 - 5PM. Join your colleagues on Tuesday afternoon for softball in New Orleans at Annunciation Park. Equipment, hats and t-shirts are provided! Please bring your own glove and cleats. Also please check with the IMLA registration when you arrive for transportation information. CLICK HERE for registration form.

This is a premier visitors spot in Miami and we are proud to have secured it for this year’s outstanding Annual Conference social event. Expect good music, Floridian cuisine, and a beautiful sunset on the bay from the shores of the castle. Come and enjoy an evening with your colleagues. Transportation will be provided for all attendees from the Hilton "motor lobby" starting at 5:45pm. There will entertainment provided by Grammy-nominated musician, Elsten Torres.

HOTEL INFORMATION AND LINKS 

IMLA has chosen a premier setting on Biscayne Bay for our two Conference hotels, the Marriott Miami Biscayne Bay and the Hilton Miami Downtown. Attendees can choose between these two outstanding properties, strategically located across the street from one another with a walkway connecting them. Conference meetings and social functions will take place in both hotels.

In either hotel, you will receive the preferred room rate of $149.99 per night (exclusive of applicable taxes) for a single or a double occupancy room. These room rates are available for a select period – October 12th until October 25th – before and after the Conference itself.
